At 20:00 hrs, on the 3rd of June 2008, The 5th Hue festival was officially held in a solemn and joyous manner at Ngo Mon square.
Invited guests were Mr. Nguyen Thien Nhan – Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Hoang Tuan Anh Minister of Culture – Sport and Tourism, and leaders of cities, provinces, the representatives of embassy, dignitary of religions, international leaders of art groups of 23 countries and thousands of audience.
This festival was organized in 9 days, from 3rd to 11th of June, 2008. The festival subject is “Cultural Heritage with Engagement and Development”. This time, Hue had so many activities in the city and suburb. There were cultural, art performances from 23 countries and other areas. This was the biggest festival with 60 artistry groups, 1500 artists, instrumentalists, sculptors … In the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thien – the president of Hue people’s committee – said “ With the festival’s theme is Cultural heritage with engagement and development, Hue Festival is a typical feast – a day of culture and tourism. It honored the value of Viet Nam unique culture and of the ancient citadel of Hue. This festival would improve international exchanges, integration, and sped up economy”
Since 2008, Hue was officially recognized as a city of festival in Vietnam and it was held every 2 years in this beautiful city.
